Hunger Heroes

Hunger Heroes is a Yale organization that serves leftover food from dining halls at one of the only Friday and Saturday evening soup kitchens in New Haven. We send 8-10 students to serve at the DESK satellite kitchen (323 Temple Street, across from TD) each Friday and Saturday. Volunteering on is from 5:30 to 7:30 on Friday and from 4:30 to 6:30 on Saturday. Please contact Brandon Hudik or Robert LaRose to volunteer – both individuals and groups are always welcome! Students sign up for each weekend separately, so there is no need to commit to a whole semester.

Hunger Heroes will begin serving again after the summer recess in early September. The annual Trick or Eat, when students trick or treat in the East Rock neighborhood for non-perishable food items to stock the DESK pantry, will take place again on October 31st and promises to be a ghoulishly good time! Please contact Haley Mitchell-Adams for more information.

Kitchen to Kitchen

Kitchen to Kitchen is a Yale organization that safely transports leftover food from dining halls to the DESK kitchen each afternoon, Monday through Thursday. Students commit to delivering food one afternoon a week (usually ~2 PM to 4 PM) for a semester. If you would like to volunteer with Kitchen to Kitchen, please contact William Giraldo

If you have any general questions about getting involved with DESK as a Yale student, please contact Yale Hunger and Homelessness Action Project board member Ruth Hanna. We hope to see you at the soup kitchen!
