Ongoing Programs
The following are The Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen’s programs. These programs serve a diverse community of “food insecure” individuals, families, and children in the greater New Haven area.
- Daily free, hot evening meals served five to seven days a week, at varying venues in downtown New Haven
- Bag lunches for the working poor and school-age children distributed nightly at the evening meals
- Food pantry open Wednesdays 2PM-4PM at which bags of food are distributed to individuals and families (families with children may receive extra bags according to their need if supply allows)
- Emergency food bank, from which food is distributed to individuals families and children in crisis situations as needed
- Pet food pantry (Thunder’s Pantry), run in conjunction with the weekly food pantry, that distributes dog and cat food items as available at no cost to DESK, thanks to the support of volunteers and anonymous donors
