Community Service

DESK Volunteers at Thanksgiving 2008
Thanksgiving Volunteers

DESK provides a variety of community service and volunteer opportunities on a daily basis which supply DESK with a wealth of human resources and make needed community service opportunities available in New Haven. There are three distinct community service and volunteer areas:

  • Court appointed/alternative incarceration community service: DESK provides numerous community service opportunities for court appointed community service hours, and these efforts are supervised and documented by the courts. In addition, DESK works with local alternative incarceration agencies to help provide community service opportunities for their clients as part of a larger community-based program requirement. Opportunities include direct service, office help, fundraising efforts, and facilities maintenance.
  • Educational requirements of community service: DESK provides community service opportunities for secondary and higher education community service requirements. These opportunities are supervised and documented by the respective educational institutions. Opportunities include direct service, office help, fundraising efforts, and facilities maintenance.
  • Public, individual, and group volunteering: DESK provides numerous opportunities for private individuals, groups, and religious congregations to volunteer. These opportunities may be scheduled directly with DESK staff. Volunteer opportunities include direct service, office help, fundraising efforts, and facilities maintenance.
